NASA's 'Ingenuity' first powered flight on Mars

NASA's 'Ingenuity' first powered flight on Mars

On April 19, 2021, NASA's helicopter Ingenuity became the first aircraft to fly successfully operated on Mars.

NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory has announced that, altimeter data indicates that it has been in the air for about 39.1 seconds on Mars, reaching an altitude of 10 feet.

Jet Propulsion Laboratory received the first black and white images of this flight on Earth, showing the shadow of the helicopter as it was landing on the red planet's ground.

This control was completely autonomous. 300 million km below Mars, there was no option to fly a helicopter with a joy stick.

About ingenuity

The Ingenuity Mars helicopter is a solar-powered helicopter, placed on Mars, to test controlled flight operated on another planet.

This 04-pound (1.8 kg) helicopter is 19.3 inches long, with no science equipment. It has two cameras, a high-resolution color camera that looks at the horizon of Mars and a black-and-white camera, which looks down at the land of Mars.

Ingenuity was added along with Parasvance Rover. Once the rover reached its proper location, Ingenuity had launched a series of test flights since early April 2021.

This flight of Mars Helicopter Ingenuity is the first flight to be operated in a very thin / sparse environment like Mars.
